Networks, Systems and Services, Distributed Computing: Part I

October 9, 2017

Exceptionally, this session will be open to all, including engineers and researchers.

Talk 1

Title:
How to use Hop and HipHop technologies for the scene (INDES Team): The Massively Interactive Music track.

Speaker:
Bertrand Petit - INDES

Abstract:
In a concert the common way of performing music is largely asymmetric. Most of the time, we have the musicians on one side and the public on the other side. There are several cultural and technical reasons for that. Nevertheless, smartphones and tablets offer the possibility to bring new concepts of interactivity. We propose here to test a first experiment, developed on Hop and HipHop (INDES), for the control of music by the public. This experiment will also be included in the spectacle "Golem" the 9 December in the “Musée d’art Moderne” of Nice.

Talk 2

Title:
Towards harnessing the solar energy

Speaker:
Dimitra POLITAKI - NEO

Abstract:

In this work we develop a stochastic model for the solar power at the surface of the earth. We combine a deterministic model of the clear sky irradiance with a stochastic model for the so-called clear sky index to obtain a stochastic model for the actual irradiance. Our clear sky index model is a 4-state semi-Markov process where state durations and clear sky index values in each state have phase-type distributions. We use per-minute solar irradiance data to tune the model, hence we are able to capture small time scales fluctuations. We compare our model with the state of the art and present the results.
